  1. If engine electrical diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If the electrical diagnosis system check was not performed. See ENGINE ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  .
  2. Install a scan tool. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Turn the ignition back and forth from the ON to START positions. If the Start 1 relay turned ON and OFF with each command, see appropriate SYSTEMS WIRING DIAGRAM article in ELECTRICAL. If the Start 1 relay did not turn ON and OFF with each command, go to next step.
  3. Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect the Start 1 relay. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Probe the battery positive voltage of the Start 1 relay coil circuit with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground. If the test lamp illuminated, go to the next step. If the test lamp did not illuminate, go to step  8 .
  4. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit of the Start 1 relay and the battery positive voltage of the Start 1 relay coil circuit. Turn the ignition back and forth from the ON to START positions. If the test lamp turned ON and OFF with each command, go to step  6 . If the test lamp did not turn ON and OFF with each command, go to next step.
  5. Test the control circuit of the Start 1 relay for a short to voltage or an open. If the correct condition was found and corrected, go to step  11 . If the correct condition was not found and corrected, go to step  7 .
  6. Inspect for poor connections at the Start 1 relay. If the correct condition was found and corrected, go to step  11 . If the correct condition was not found and corrected, go to step  9 .
  7. Inspect for poor connections at the PCM. If the correct condition was found and corrected, go to step  11 . If the correct condition was not found and corrected, go to step  10 .
  8. Repair the battery positive voltage circuit of the Start 1 relay. If the repair was completed, go to step  11 .
  9. Replace the Start 1 relay. If the repair was completed, go to step  11 .
  10. Replace the PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE/VEHICLE CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in BODY CONTROL MODULES - CHEVY EXPRESS & SAVANNA article in COMMUNICATION DEVICES in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If the repair was completed, go to step  11 .
  11. Review and record the scan tool Fail Records data. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTC. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC as specified in the supporting text. Using the scan tool, observe the Specific DTC Information for DTC P0615 until the test runs. If the scan tool indicates that DTC P0615 failed this ignition, go to step  2 . If the scan tool does not indicate that DTC P0615 failed this ignition, the system is OK.
