Installation Procedure

- Lubricate the new o-ring seal.
- If necessary, install the new o-ring seal onto the thrust bearing support.
- Place J 45798 over the stub shaft. This will aid in assembly of the new thrust bearing support.
- Press the thrust bearing support onto the stub shaft and into the gear housing. Remove J 45798 from the stub shaft.
- Connect the adjuster nut assembly to the steering gear housing using J 42882 .
- Adjust the thrust bearing support preload. Refer to Worm Thrust Bearing Preload Adjustment - Off Vehicle .
IMPORTANT:
This thrust bearing support is preloaded onto the stub shaft. It will require a large effort to push on. Do not tap thrust bearing support into place with hammer or other object.
