Installation Procedure

  1. Lubricate the new o-ring seal.
  2. If necessary, install the new o-ring seal onto the thrust bearing support.
  3. Place J 45798 over the stub shaft. This will aid in assembly of the new thrust bearing support.

  4. IMPORTANT: This thrust bearing support is preloaded onto the stub shaft. It will require a large effort to push on. Do not tap thrust bearing support into place with hammer or other object.
  5. Press the thrust bearing support onto the stub shaft and into the gear housing. Remove J 45798 from the stub shaft.
  6. Connect the adjuster nut assembly to the steering gear housing using J 42882  .

  7. Adjust the thrust bearing support preload. Refer to Worm Thrust Bearing Preload Adjustment - Off Vehicle .
