Repair Procedures: Inspection
Correcting the BSD Angle
- After replacing the BSD unit or bracket, with the bumper removed, use the BSD unit correction tool set (special tool: 09958-3T000) to perform angle correction.CAUTION:
- Perform the task on a level place.
- Perform the task after checking the tire pressure.
- Perform the task indoors rather than outdoors so that you can identify the laser beam that is projected from a level laser (special tool: 09958-3T060).
- The level laser (special tool: 09958-3T060) and measuring device (special tool: 09958-3T020) are sensitive to impact. If you are not using the tools, keep them in the respective cases.
- Attach a vertical plumb (special tool: 09958-3T010) on the hood, and lower the plumb (A) to the ground so that it passes through the center of the emblem.
- Install an optical receiver (special tool: 09958-3T020) below the plumb (A).NOTE:
- When you install the optical receiver (special tool: 09958-3T020), adjust the tripod (A) so that the optical receiver is level with the ground.
- Check the level by looking through the level checking window (B).
- Make sure that the plumb (D) is positioned above the hole (C) of the optical receiver as shown in illustration (A).
- Make sure that the front of the optical receiver faces the rear of the vehicle.
- Attach a vertical plumb (special tool: 09958-3T010) on the trunk (or tailgate), and lower the plumb (A) to the ground so that it passes through the center of the emblem.
- Install the rear setting jig (special tool: 09958-3T030) so that its hole is placed directly under the plumb (A).
- Place the laser support (special tool: 09958-3T040) at a location "2m" away from the rear of the vehicle and install the level laser (special tool: 09958-3T060) above the laser support.NOTE:
- Move the level laser (special tool: 09958-3T060) slowly to left or right to form a center line.
- When the laser beam goes through the hole of the rear setting jig and the level laser is placed at the center of the optical receiver, a buzzer sounds and the center line is formed on.
- Mount the BSD unit fixing adaptor (special tool: 09958-3T080) on the BSD unit and fix the level laser (special tool: 09958-3T070).
- Install an angle measuring plate (special tool: 09958-3T050) at a location where the center line laser beam (A) and the horizontal laser beam (B) cross each other.
- Measure the angle between the center line (A) of the angle measuring plate and the horizontal laser beam (B) using a digital protractor (special tool: 09958-3T090).
- Use a digital inclinometer (special tool: 09958-3T100) to measure the vertical angle of the BSD unit.
Vertical Angle: 87° (-0.75°/+1.25°)
- Measure the horizontal and vertical angles of left and right BSD units. If the measured values deviate from the specified values, insert a washer between the bracket of the BSD unit.
Specified Values
Horizontal Angle: 63 - 73°
Vertical Angle: 86.2 - 91.2°
- After checking and correcting the BSD unit angle, perform the BSD radar correction procedure.
BSD Unit Alignment
To correctly sense vehicles on the neighboring lanes using the radar, the direction of the sensor and the direction of the vehicle must be aligned.
This is the BSD unit alignment. If this alignment is not performed as in illustration below, it may cause degradation of detection performance and false alarms.
In particular, rear bumper accident vehicles and vehicles that replaced BSD unit must carry out this alignment procedure.
- Rear bumper accident vehicles and vehicles that replaced BSD units must perform BSD unit alignment using GDS.
- Select "BSD Radar Calibration" procedure in BSD system.
- Perform the "BSD Radar Calibration" procedure according to the GDS screen message.
