IEB/ESP (ESC) Control Module
The VSM (Vehicle Stability Management) is a safety function which prevents a vehicle from crashing with the integrated control by the FCA/SCC (Smart Cruise Control) centered on the IEB/ESP (ESC). The FCA/SCC computes the likelihood of a collision with a radar that senses the speed and gap of a vehicle ahead. In case of crashing it reduces damage from it through the IEB/ESP (ESC) controlling the FCA/SCC system.
When a driver's vehicle is about to crash, the FCA/SCC measures the distance from the car ahead and makes a decision accordingly.
If collision is expected, the IEB brakes the vehicle even thought the driver doesn't hit a brake pedal by actuating motor to reduce damage of crash.
The IEB exchanges signals with the ECM, TCM, FCA/SCC via CAN lines in order to control VSM properly.
