Repair Procedures: Removal

CAUTION:
  • Be careful not to damage the parts located under the vehicle (floor under cover, fuel filter, fuel tank and canister) when raising the vehicle using the lift. (Refer to General Information - "LIFT AND SUPPORT POINTS ")
NOTE:
  • Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
  • To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
IMPORTANT:
  • Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection.
  1. Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
  2. Drain the engine coolant and water cooled intercooler coolant. (Refer to Cooling System - "COOLANT ")
  3. Remove the engine cover. (Refer to Engine and Transmission Assembly - "ENGINE COVER ")
  4. Recover the A/C refrigerant and then remove the A/C compressor high pressure pipe and low pressure pipe. (Refer to Heating, Ventilation Air Conditioning - "COMPRESSOR ")
  5. Disconnect the air duct hose (A).

  6. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
    1. Disconnect the RCV hose (A).
    2. Disconnect the vacuum hose (B).
    3. Disconnect the air intake hose (C).
    4. Remove the air cleaner assembly (D).

    Intake Hose clamp: 2.9 - 4.9 N.m (0.3 - 0.5 kgf.m, 2.2 - 3.6 lb-ft)

    Air cleaner mounting bolts: 7.8 - 9.8 N.m (0.8 - 1.0 kgf.m, 5.8 - 7.2 lb-ft)

  7. Disconnect the over flow hose (A).

  8. Disconnect the water cooled intercooler outlet hose (A).

  9. Disconnect the radiator lower hose (A).

  11. Remove the intercooler outlet pipe.
    1. Disconnect the Intake Air Temperature Sensor (IATS) (A).

    2. Remove the intercooler outlet pipe (B).

  12. Disconnect the heater hoses (A).

  13. Disconnect the fuel hose (A) and PCSV hose (B).

  14. Disconnect the "+" cable wiring.
    1. Remove the fuse box cover (A).

    2. Disconnect the "+" cable wiring (B).

  15. Remove the engine room cover (A).

  16. Disconnect the ECM connector (A), TCM connector (B), ground cable (C).

    Tightening torque: 

    10.8 - 13.7 N.m (1.1 - 1.4 kgf.m, 8.0 - 10.1 lb-ft)

  17. Remove the engine ground cable (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    10.8 - 13.7 N.m (1.1 - 1.4 kgf.m, 8.0 - 10.1 lb-ft)

  18. Loosen the universal joint mounting bolt (A), and than disconnect the universal joint from steering column & shaft

    Tightening torque: 

    32.4 - 37.3 N.m (3.3 - 3.8 kgf.m, 23.9 - 27.5 lb-ft)

  19. Remove the front muffler (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    39.2 - 58.8 N.m (4.0 - 6.0 kgf.m, 28.9 - 43.4 lb-ft)

  20. Remove the transmission ground cable (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    10.8 - 13.7 N.m (1.1 - 1.4 kgf.m, 8.0 - 10.1 lb-ft)

  21. Remove the tie rod end ball joint from the knuckle. (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT DRIVESHAFT ")
  22. Remove the tension arm. (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT DRIVESHAFT ")
  23. Remove the lateral arm mounting bolt from the knuckle. (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT DRIVESHAFT ")
  24. Remove the propeller shaft mounting bolt and nut and then separate the propeller shaft from the transfer assembly. (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "PROPELLER SHAFT ")
  25. Remove the front drive shaft. (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT DRIVESHAFT ")
  26. Remove the transmission mounting assembly (A).

    Bolts, Nuts (B): 2WD (Nuts): 29.4 - 34.3 N.m (3.0 - 3.5 kgf.m, 21.7 - 25.3 lb-ft)

    AWD (Bolts): 63.7 - 83.4 N.m (6.5 - 8.5 kgf.m, 47.0 - 61.5 lb-ft)

    Bolts (C): 58.8 - 73.5 N.m (6.0 - 7.5 kgf.m, 43.4 - 54.2 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • Install the jack under the transmission to support the transmission.
  27. Disconnect the R-MDPS connector (A).

  28. Remove the engine room under cover bracket (A).

  29. Support the engine and transmission assembly with a floor jack.

  30. Remove the front cross member mounting bolts (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    196.1 - 215.7 N.m (20.0 - 22.0 kgf.m, 144.7 - 159.1 lb-ft)

  31. Remove the front end module mounting bolt (A).

  32. Support the engine and transmission assembly with a floor jack.

    NOTE:
    • Before removing the engine and transmission assembly, make sure hoses and wire connectors are disconnected.
    • When removing the engine and transmission assembly, be careful not to damage any surrounding parts or body components.
    CAUTION:
    • Remove the engine, transmission assembly and the front cross member horizontally. When removing, be careful not to damage the front end module (A).

  33. Remove the transmission assembly from the engine assembly. (Refer to Automatic Transmission System - "AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ")
  34. Remove the engine mounting support bracket mounting nut and then remove the engine assembly form the front cross member by lifting up the engine hoist.
