Repair Procedures: Removal
- Be careful not to damage the parts located under the vehicle (floor under cover, fuel filter, fuel tank and canister) when raising the vehicle using the lift. (Refer to General Information - "LIFT AND SUPPORT POINTS ")
- Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
- To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
- Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection.
- Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
- Drain the engine coolant and water cooled intercooler coolant. (Refer to Cooling System - "COOLANT ")
- Remove the engine cover. (Refer to Engine and Transmission Assembly - "ENGINE COVER ")
- Recover the A/C refrigerant and then remove the A/C compressor high pressure pipe and low pressure pipe. (Refer to Heating, Ventilation Air Conditioning - "COMPRESSOR ")
- Disconnect the air duct hose (A).
- Remove the air cleaner assembly.
- Disconnect the RCV hose (A).
- Disconnect the vacuum hose (B).
- Disconnect the air intake hose (C).
- Remove the air cleaner assembly (D).
Intake Hose clamp: 2.9 - 4.9 N.m (0.3 - 0.5 kgf.m, 2.2 - 3.6 lb-ft)
Air cleaner mounting bolts: 7.8 - 9.8 N.m (0.8 - 1.0 kgf.m, 5.8 - 7.2 lb-ft)
- Disconnect the over flow hose (A).
- Disconnect the water cooled intercooler outlet hose (A).
- Disconnect the radiator lower hose (A).
- Disconnect the radiator upper hose (A).
- Remove the intercooler outlet pipe.
- Disconnect the heater hoses (A).
- Disconnect the fuel hose (A) and PCSV hose (B).
- Disconnect the "+" cable wiring.
- Remove the engine room cover (A).
- Disconnect the ECM connector (A), TCM connector (B), ground cable (C).
Tightening torque:
10.8 - 13.7 N.m (1.1 - 1.4 kgf.m, 8.0 - 10.1 lb-ft)
- Remove the engine ground cable (A).
Tightening torque:
10.8 - 13.7 N.m (1.1 - 1.4 kgf.m, 8.0 - 10.1 lb-ft)
- Loosen the universal joint mounting bolt (A), and than disconnect the universal joint from steering column & shaft
Tightening torque:
32.4 - 37.3 N.m (3.3 - 3.8 kgf.m, 23.9 - 27.5 lb-ft)
- Remove the front muffler (A).
Tightening torque:
39.2 - 58.8 N.m (4.0 - 6.0 kgf.m, 28.9 - 43.4 lb-ft)
- Remove the transmission ground cable (A).
Tightening torque:
10.8 - 13.7 N.m (1.1 - 1.4 kgf.m, 8.0 - 10.1 lb-ft)
- Remove the tie rod end ball joint from the knuckle. (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT DRIVESHAFT ")
- Remove the tension arm. (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT DRIVESHAFT ")
- Remove the lateral arm mounting bolt from the knuckle. (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT DRIVESHAFT ")
- Remove the propeller shaft mounting bolt and nut and then separate the propeller shaft from the transfer assembly. (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "PROPELLER SHAFT ")
- Remove the front drive shaft. (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT DRIVESHAFT ")
- Remove the transmission mounting assembly (A).
Bolts, Nuts (B): 2WD (Nuts): 29.4 - 34.3 N.m (3.0 - 3.5 kgf.m, 21.7 - 25.3 lb-ft)
AWD (Bolts): 63.7 - 83.4 N.m (6.5 - 8.5 kgf.m, 47.0 - 61.5 lb-ft)
Bolts (C): 58.8 - 73.5 N.m (6.0 - 7.5 kgf.m, 43.4 - 54.2 lb-ft)
NOTE:- Install the jack under the transmission to support the transmission.
- Disconnect the R-MDPS connector (A).
- Remove the engine room under cover bracket (A).

- Support the engine and transmission assembly with a floor jack.
- Remove the front cross member mounting bolts (A).
Tightening torque:
196.1 - 215.7 N.m (20.0 - 22.0 kgf.m, 144.7 - 159.1 lb-ft)
- Remove the front end module mounting bolt (A).
- Support the engine and transmission assembly with a floor jack.NOTE:
- Before removing the engine and transmission assembly, make sure hoses and wire connectors are disconnected.
- When removing the engine and transmission assembly, be careful not to damage any surrounding parts or body components.
CAUTION:- Remove the engine, transmission assembly and the front cross member horizontally. When removing, be careful not to damage the front end module (A).
- Remove the transmission assembly from the engine assembly. (Refer to Automatic Transmission System - "AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ")
- Remove the engine mounting support bracket mounting nut and then remove the engine assembly form the front cross member by lifting up the engine hoist.
