Repair Procedures: Removal
- Turn ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
- Remove the water cooled intercooler.
(Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "WATER COOLED INTERCOOLER ")
- Remove the Warm up Catalytic Convertor (WCC) upper heated oxygen sensor connector (A).
- Using the engine support fixture, hold the engine and transaxle assembly safely.
(Refer to Special Service Tools - "ENGINE SUPPORT FIXTURE ASSEMBLY DRAWING ")
- Remove the transfer case assembly.[In case by AWD apply]
- Disconnect the AWD ECU connector.
- Loosen the transfer case upper mounting bolts (A).
- Loosen the transfer case bottom mounting bolts (B).
- Remove the front propeller shaft assembly.
- Loosen the front propeller shaft mounting bolts (A).
Tightening torque:
49.0 - 68.6 N.m (5.0 - 7.0 kgf.m, 36.2 - 50.6 lb-ft)
- Remove the front propeller shaft (A).
NOTE:- Mark the location and direction of bolt before removing the propeller shaft.
- Installing the bolt and washer differently from the initial state can result in unbalanced propeller shaft causing abnormal vibration of propeller shaft at high speed.
- Do not reuse the bolt.
- Loosen the front propeller shaft mounting bolts (A).
- Loosen the bolts (A) and nuts (B) and then removing the transmission bracket (C).[In case by 2WD apply]
Tightening torque:
- 42.2 - 53.9 N.m (4.3 - 5.5 kgf.m, 31.1 - 39.8 lb-ft)
- 39.2 - 46.1 N.m (4.0 - 4.7 kgf.m, 28.9 - 34.0 lb-ft)
- Loosen the bolts and then removing the ground line (A).
- Remove the Warm up Catalytic Convertor (WCC).
- Disconnect the HO2 sensor (A).
- Remove the clamp (B).
- Loosen the bolts and then removing the Warm up Catalytic Convertor (WCC) (C).
- Remove the items below.
- Main connector
- Parking release actuator connector
- Position sensor connector
- Electronic Oil Pump (EOP) connector
- Crank Position Sensor (CKPS) connector
- Ground line and wiring bracket
- Loosen the bolt and then dust cover (A).
- Loosen the torque converter mounting bolts (B) by rotating the crankshaft (A).NOTE:
- When installing, apply the ATF to the bolts thread before tightening the bolts.
- When installing, lightly tighten the bolts (6-ea) and then tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
- Remove the ATF warmer.
- Loosen the starter mounting bolts (A) and the transmission mounting bolts (B, C).
Tightening torque:
- 49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb-ft)
- 78.5 - 98.1 N.m (4.3 - 5.5 kgf.m, 57.9 - 72.3 lb-ft)
- 39.2 - 46.1 N.m (4.0 - 4.7 kgf.m, 28.9 - 34.0 lb-ft)
- After separating the transmission from the engine, remove the transmission by lowering the jack slowly.CAUTION:
- Be careful not to damage other nearby wiring or parts when removing the transmission assembly.
