The roles of the IBU (SMK + BCM + TPMS) can be divided into the passive start function for starting the engine and the passive entry function for entering the vehicle (door lock/unlock) and opening/closing the trunk. The passive start function enables a driver to supply power to and start the engine by controlling the power supply relay (ACC, IGN1, IGN2, Start) when a driver holds the smart key and presses the start/stop button inside the vehicle. The passive entry function enables the driver to enter the vehicle by possessing the smart key and pressing the door handle button to transmit door lock/unlock information to the CAN.

The IBU (SMK + BCM + TPMS) is included in the communication network (B_CAN) for the electronical system of the vehicle's body.
