SBW (Shift By Wire) system is meaning that mechanical connection (such as cable or linkage) between the gearshift and transmission is replaced by electric wire (electronic connection).

This makes weight savings, and improves gear shift performance, fuel economy, drive-safety via ECM which controls manual valve, parking mechanicals.

  1. How SBW works on (IG. ON)

TCM receives electric signal from electric shift lever by sensing changes in the position of the lever [CAN + Hard Wire].

    1. TCM controls transmission gear shift after calculating various conditions of the vehicle at the same time.
    2. TCM sends electric signal (CAN) to lever indicator and instrument cluster to indicate present gear changes.
  2. How to release parking brake on (IG. OFF)

Push 'P' release button with pressing brake pedal.

    1. Parking release actuator pulls a cable which connects to transmission.
    2. Gear shift is changed from 'Park' to 'Neutral' by transmission mechanical operation of the control lever.
  3. Auto-Return function

When ignition is turned off with gear lever in M position, gear lever returns to Nd position automatically. (Changed to P position)

When pushed P button with gear lever in M position, gear lever return to Nd position automatically. (Changed to P position)
