Connect engine analyzer or tune-up tachometer to engine. Start and warm engine. Raise engine RPM in 1000 RPM increments. Compare and record values of vehicle tachometer to test tachometer. If vehicle tachometer is sluggish or RPM ranges differ more than 150 RPM from test tachometer, replace vehicle tachometer.
