Throttle Position (TP) Sensor: Adjustments

NOTE: Perform all testing procedures with engine at normal operating temperature.
CAUTION: DO NOT  use throttle stop screw to adjust throttle position sensor.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove air cleaner. Disconnect electrical connector from TP sensor. Loosen TP sensor retaining screws. Insert a .012" (.30 mm) feeler gauge between throttle lever and stop screw. See Fig 1 . Connect ohmmeter between TP sensor terminals No. 1 and 2. See Fig 2 .
  2. Rotate throttle position sensor fully clockwise, then slowly rotate counterclockwise until ohmmeter indicates continuity. Hold TP sensor, and tighten retaining screws to 18 INCH lbs. (2 N.m). Remove feeler gauge. Ohmmeter should still indicate continuity.
  3. Insert a .035" (.89 mm) feeler gauge between throttle lever and stop screw. Ohmmeter should indicate no continuity. Remove feeler gauge. Reconnect electrical connector and install air cleaner.
