Throttle Position (TP) Sensor: Inspection

NOTE: Perform all testing procedures with engine at normal operating temperature.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove air cleaner. Disconnect electrical connector from TP sensor. Loosen TP sensor retaining screws.
  2. To check proper TP sensor operation, using ohmmeter, check resistance or continuity with selected feeler gauge thickness between throttle lever and stop screw. SeeFigure and Figure . Refer to the THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR RESISTANCE  table.
  3. If TP sensor resistances are not as specified, adjust or replace TP sensor. See procedure under ADJUSTMENTS. Once properly adjusted, reconnect electrical connector and install air cleaner.
