Fuel System Pressure Release

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1996 Pontiac Firefly and 1996 Geo Metro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Loosen fuel filler cap to release fuel tank pressure. Remove cover from relay/fuse box, located in left front corner of engine compartment, behind battery. See Fig 1. Remove fuel pump relay from relay/fuse box. Start and run engine until it stalls. Crank engine for about 3 more seconds to ensure residual fuel line pressure is released. Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Install fuel pump relay, cover, and tighten fuel filler cap.
