Electronic Ignition Timing Control
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1996 Pontiac Firefly and 1996 Geo Metro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Ignition timing is calculated by PCM according to information supplied by various sensors. A signal is sent from PCM to distributor igniter and changes ignition timing accordingly. If a fault occurs in Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor circuit or CMP sensor fails, DTC P0340 can set in PCM memory. For testing procedures, see TESTS W/CODES article. For adjusting procedures, see IGNITION TIMING in ADJUSTMENTS article.
