Disabling & Activating Air Bag System

WARNING: Wait about 2 minutes after disabling Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) before servicing. System maintains SRS voltage for about 2 minutes. Servicing SRS before 2 minutes may cause accidental air bag deployment and possible personal injury.
  1. Ensure front wheels face straight-ahead. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove CIG & RADIO fuse and IGN fuse from junction block. See Fig 1 . Wait about 2 minutes. Locate driver-side air bag Yellow 2-pin connector at base of steering column. See Fig 2 . Remove Connector Position Assurance (CPA) clip and disconnect Yellow 2-pin connector.
  2. Lower glove box and remove passenger-side air bag connector cover located above glove box. See Fig 3 . Remove Connector Position Assurance (CPA) clip and disconnect Yellow 2-pin connector.
  3. To activate SRS, ensure all SRS components are properly installed. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect Yellow 2-pin connectors and CPA clips at base of steering column and above glove box. Install IGN and CIG & RADIO fuses to junction block. Turn ignition switch to ACC or ON position and ensure air bag indicator illuminates steadily for about 6 seconds, then turns off.
