Ignitor Unit
- Turn ignition off. Remove distributor cap, rotor and inner cover. Disconnect all 4 wires from ignitor unit. See Fig 1

and Fig 3
. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between Black/Yellow wire and good body ground point. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present on Accord and Prelude, check for open in Black/Yellow wire at ignitor unit and Yellow wire at ignition coil (wire changes color before reaching coil assembly). If battery voltage is not present on Civic, check for open in Black/Yellow wire between ignitor unit and ignition coil.
- On Accord, measure voltage between Light Green wire and good body ground point. On Civic, measure voltage between White/Blue wire and good body ground point. On Prelude, measure voltage between Green wire and good body ground point. If battery voltage is present on all models, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present on all models, check ignition coil. If ignition coil is okay, check for an open in suspect wire between ignitor unit and ignition coil. Note that wire changes color on Accord and Prelude before reaching coil assembly.
- On all models, turn ignition off. Using DVOM, measure continuity of Yellow/Green wire between ignitor unit and good body ground point. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, check for an open in Yellow/Green wire between ignitor unit and Gray 26-pin ECU connector "A" terminals A21 and A22. Note that on Civic models, Yellow/Green wire changes to Red/Green wire at Gray 26-pin ECU connector "A" terminals A21 and A22. If Yellow/Green wire (and Red/Green wires on Civic) is okay, check for poor ground connections.
- Check continuity of Blue wire between ignitor unit and good body ground point. If continuity is present, replace ignitor unit. If continuity is not present, check for an open in Blue wire between ignitor unit and tachometer (if equipped) or A/T control unit. If Blue wire is okay, check for poor ground connections.
