Engine Controls - System/Component Tests: Introduction

NOTE: For testing and diagnosis of Civic Variable Valve Timing (VTEC) system, see CODE 21 and 22 charts in appropriate TESTS W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE.

Before testing separate components or systems, perform procedures in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Since many computer-controlled and monitored components set trouble codes if they malfunction, also perform procedures in appropriate TESTS W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE.

NOTE: Perform all voltage tests with a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedure. Testing individual components does not isolate shorts or opens. Use ohmmeter to isolate wiring harness shorts or opens.
