(1) Engine Code is the first 5 characters of the 12 characters stamped or tagged on engine block. (2) On all models except Passport, Body/Engine ID is the fourth, fifth and sixth digit of VIN. On Passport, Body/Engine ID is the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth digit of VIN. (3) Ignition timing is controlled by Powertrain Control Module (PCM). (4) Variable Valve Timing with Electronic Control (VTEC) system. (5) Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) Engine. (6) VTEC-E system. (7) Dual Overhead Camshafts (DOHC). (8) Hybrid vehicle is equipped with gasoline engine and an electric motor. Only service procedures for gasoline engine are covered. Use caution during service to prevent touching Orange-colored, high-voltage wiring.
