ATF Replacement
NOTE:
Keep all foreign particles out of the transmission.
- Park the vehicle on a level ground.
- Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature (the radiator fan comes on), and turn the engine off.
- Raise the vehicle on a lift, or apply the parking brake, block both rear wheels, and raise the front of the vehicle. Make sure it is securely supported.
- Remove the ATF filler bolt and drain plug (A), and drain the automatic transmission fluid (ATF).NOTE: If a cooler cleaning is done, refer to ATF COOLER CLEANING .
- Reinstall the drain plug with a new sealing washer (B).
- Refill the transmission with the recommended fluid through the filler hole (A). Always use Honda ATF-Z1 Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF). Using a non-Honda ATF can affect shift quality.
Automatic Transmission Fluid Capacity:
4WD
2.8 L (3.0 US qt) at change
7.9 L (8.3 US qt) at overhaul
2WD
3.4 L (3.6 US qt) at change
8.1 L (8.6 US qt) at overhaul
- Install the ATF filler bolt (B) and the new sealing washer (C).
- Remove the dipstick (A).
- Make sure the fluid level is between the upper mark (B) and lower mark (C) on the dipstick.
- If the maintenance minder indicated you to replace the ATF, reset the maintenance minder (see RESETTING THE MAINTENANCE INFORMATION DISPLAY ). If the maintenance minder did not require you to replace the ATF, go to step 11 and reset the ATF life with the HDS.
- Connect the HDS to the DLC (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II). Make sure the HDS communicates with the PCM. If it does not, go to DLC CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING .
- Select BODY ELECTRICAL with HDS.
- Select ADJUSTMENT in the GAUGES MENU with the HDS.
- Select RESET in the MAINTENANCE MINDER with the HDS.
- Select MAINTENANCE SUB ITEM 3 RESET, and reset the ATF life with the HDS.
