Diagnostic Test: Navi System Link

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2014 Honda Ridgeline, 2013 Honda Ridgeline, 2012 Honda Ridgeline, 2011 Honda Ridgeline, and 2010 Honda Ridgeline. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
  • Check the vehicle battery condition first (see BATTERY TEST ).
  • Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
  • Check the navigation volume level (see Owner's Manual).
  • Inspect the navigation DVD for dirt or damage.
  • Before troubleshooting, make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the audio system and the navigation system.
  • After troubleshooting, enter the anti-theft codes for the audio system and the navigation system.
  • The voice guidance is provided by the right front speaker. When you check the audio system function, make sure all speakers are working OK. Do the individual speaker test (see INDIVIDUAL SPEAKER TEST ).
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  2. Press the display unit SET-UP button.
  3. Check the volume and volume and voice feedback setting for the navigation system in set-up.

    Is either set to OFF? 

    YES  -Set the voice feedback to ON, and select an audible level for the volume. ■

    NO  -Go to step 4.

  4. Check the audio operation.

    Can you hear the audio? 

    YES  -Go to step 5.

    NO  -Troubleshoot the audio system. ■

  5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  6. Connect the HDS to the DLC (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
  7. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  8. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    Are there any DTCs present? 

    YES  -Troubleshoot the DTC, then recheck.

    NO  -Troubleshooting the audio system.

  9. Go into the Diagnostic Mode (see SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC MODE ), and use the Navi System Link (see NAVI SYSTEM LINK ) to check the radio.

    Is the Radio icon red? 

    YES  -Troubleshoot the audio system. ■

    NO  -Go to step 10.

  10. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  11. Disconnect the navigation unit connector B (14P) and the audio unit connector A (20P).
  12. Check for continuity between body ground and navigation unit connector C (16P) terminals No. 7, and No. 14 individually.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  -There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the navigation unit and the audio unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

    NO  -Go to step 13.

  13. Check for continuity between navigation unit connector C (16P) terminals No. 13 and No. 7, and terminals No. 13 and No. 14.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  -There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the navigation unit and the audio unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

    NO  -Go to step 14.

  14. Check for continuity between navigation unit connector C (16P) terminal No. 7 and the audio unit connector A (24P) terminal No. 9.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  -Go to step 15.

    NO  -There is an open in the circuit between the navigation unit and audio unit. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the audio and navigation units. If no poor connection or loose terminal is found, replace the affected shielded harness. ■

  15. Check for continuity between navigation unit connector C (16P) terminal No. 14 and the audio unit connector A (24P) terminal No. 8.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  -Go to step 16.

    NO  -There is an open in the circuit between the navigation unit and audio unit. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the audio and navigation units. If no poor connection or loose terminal is found, replace the affected shielded harness. ■

  16. Substitute a known-good navigation unit (see NAVIGATION UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ), and recheck.

    Is the system OK? 

    YES  -Replace the navigation unit (see NAVIGATION UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).

    NO  -Replace the original audio unit (see AUDIO UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ). ■
