VTEC Rocker Arm Test: Test
- Cylinder Head Cover - Remove
- VTEC Rocker Arm - Test
1. Rotate the crankshaft pulley clockwise. Make sure that intake secondary rocker arm A and intake secondary rocker arm B are separated and that intake secondary rocker arm A and intake secondary rocker arm B should move independently: - If intake secondary rocker arm A and intake secondary rocker arm B move together, remove the secondary rocker arms as an assembly, then check that the pistons in the secondary rocker arms move smoothly. If any rocker arm needs replacing, replace all of them as an assembly, then retest.
- If each rocker arms moves independently, go to next procedure.
- Air Pressure - Check
1. Check that the air pressure on the shop air compressor gauge indicates over 400 kPa (4.0 kgf/cm 2, 57 psi). - Valve Clearance - Inspect
- VTEC Change Over - Test
1. Install the VTEC adapter (A) to the inspection hole. 2. Connect the air pressure regulator (B).
3. Loosen the valve on the air pressure regulator, and apply the specified air pressure.
Specified Air Pressure: 290 kPa (3.0 kgf/cm 2, 42 psi) 4. With the specified air pressure applied, rotate the crankshaft pulley clockwise. Intake secondary rocker arm A should move together with intake secondary rocker arm B: - If intake secondary rocker arm A and intake secondary rocker arm B move independently, remove the secondary rocker arms as an assembly, then check that the pistons in the secondary rocker arms move smoothly. If any rocker arm needs replacing, replace all of them as an assembly, then retest.
- If each rocker arms move together, go to step
5. Remove the air pressure regulator and the VTEC adapter.
- All Removed Parts - Install
1. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
