Steering Column/EPS Control Unit Removal and Installation: Installation

NOTE:
  1. Steering Column - Install

    1. Install the steering column/EPS control unit (A).

    2. Tighten a new attaching bolts (B) to the specified torque in the numbered sequence shown.

  2. Combination Switch - Install

    1. Install the combination switch (A).

    USA models

    Canada and Mexico models

    2. Tighten the screws (B) in the numbered sequence shown.

    3. Connect the connectors (C).

    4. Install the clips (D).

  3. Column Cover - Install 
  4. Driver's Dashboard Lower Cover - Install
  5. Steering Joint - Connect

    1. Cut the wire (A).

    2. Slip the lower end of the steering joint (B) onto the pinion shaft (C).

    • Pinion shaft with center guide: Install the steering joint by aligning the center guide (D).
    • Pinion shaft without center guide: Position the steering column by aligning the gap (E) within the angle.

    3. Align the bolt hole (A) on the steering joint with the groove (B) around the pinion shaft.

    4. Loosely install a new steering joint bolt (C).

    5. Be sure that the joint bolt is securely in the groove in the pinion shaft.

    6. Tighten the steering joint bolt to the specified torque.

    NOTE:

    Install the steering joint bolt and tighten it within 5 minutes using the specified tightening torque.

    7. Pull on the steering joint to make sure that the steering joint is fully seated.

    8. Install the steering joint cover (D).

    NOTE:

    Check the steering joint cover for damage and cracks. If the steering joint cover is cracked, replace the steering joint cover.

  6. Center Console Side Cover - Install (Driver's Side)
  7. Kick Panel - Install - Refer to: Interior Trim Removal and Installation - Door Areas, , or Interior Trim Removal and Installation - Pillar Areas, , or Interior Trim Removal and Installation - Rear Side Area, , or Interior Trim Removal and Installation - Cargo Areas, , or Interior Trim Removal and Installation - Tailgate Areas
  8. Front Door Sill Trim - Install - Refer to: Interior Trim Removal and Installation - Door Areas, , or Interior Trim Removal and Installation - Pillar Areas, , or Interior Trim Removal and Installation - Rear Side Area, , or Interior Trim Removal and Installation - Cargo Areas, , or Interior Trim Removal and Installation - Tailgate Areas
  9. Steering Wheel - Install - Refer to: Steering Wheel Removal and Installation (2016 2017 2018) , or Steering Wheel Removal and Installation (2019 2020 2021) 
  10. Driver's Airbag - Install
  11. 12 Volt Battery Terminal - Connect
  12. Steering - Check
    1. After installation, check these items:
    • Start the engine, allow it to idle, and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times.
    • Check that the EPS indicator does not come on.
    • Check the steering wheel spoke angle. If steering spoke angles to the right and left are not equal (steering wheel and rack are not centered), correct the engagement of the joint/pinion shaft splines.
  13. Wheel Alignment - Check
  14. VSA Sensor Neutral Position - Memorization
  15. Steering Angle Sensor Neutral Position - Clear
