DTC P073E: Unable to Engage Reverse
General Description
The transmission control module (TCM) monitors the transmission output direction during each clutch engagement. If the transmission output direction is abnormal (forward direction) when the clutches (clutch D, clutch B, and dog clutch F) are commanded to engage by selecting R position/mode, the TCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Malfunction Threshold

Operating Condition
- 1.
Start the engine.
- 2.
While pressing the brake pedal, shift the transmission to R position/mode.

None.
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the A/T gear position indicator blinks and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the TCM memory. The MIL does not come on.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The A/T gear position indicator comes off by turning the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode. The Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command.
