Removal & Installation (3.5L)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue and 2002 Oldsmobile Aurora. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition off. On Aurora, remove rear seat cushion to access battery. On all models, disconnect negative battery cable. PCM is located in air cleaner box, on left side of engine compartment. See Fig 1. Remove the left strut brace. Disconnect air duct from throttle body.
  2. Disconnect intake air temperature sensor and mass airflow sensor connectors. Loosen air cleaner cover retaining screw. Remove the air cleaner cover. Lift the PCM from the air cleaner housing. Disconnect PCM harness connectors. Remove PCM from the engine compartment.
  3. To install, reverse removal procedure. The replacement PCM must be reprogrammed and the Crankshaft Position (CKP) system variation learn procedure must be performed. See PROGRAMMING in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article.
