MILD ENGINE SURGE AT HIGHWAY SPEED

DESCRIPTION:

Some 1995-96 Sonata V6 vehicles may exhibit a mild engine surging sensation when driving at a constant speed on the highway at approximately 1800-2500 rpm. The customer may incorrectly perceive the condition as an ignition misfire during highway driving.

If a customer experiences this condition, check for related Diagnostic Trouble Codes using the HDS Scanner and test drive the vehicle to confirm the condition. If no Diagnostic Trouble Codes or other driveability symptoms are found, install the appropriate replacement control unit shown below.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

1995 Sonata: Refer to TSB # 96-40-003-1.





1996 Sonata: Replace the PCM located on the right side under the dash.
