Intermittent Wiper Does Not Operate

  1. Turn ignition switch to ACC position. Using a voltmeter, backprobe Hybrid Electric Control (HEC) unit 16-pin harness connector terminal No. 7P (Red wire) with connector connected. See Figure . With wiper switch in OFF position, battery voltage should be present. With wiper switch in INT position, voltage reading should change every 3 to 23 seconds from zero to battery voltage.
  2. If voltage readings are as specified, check wiper relay and wiper relay circuit. If voltage readings are not as specified, disconnect Super Multiple Joint (SMJ) connector. See Figure . Connect ohmmeter between SMJ connector terminal No. 11I and ground. See Figure . With wiper switch in OFF position, continuity should not be present. With wiper switch in INT position, continuity should be present.
  3. If continuity is as specified, replace TCU. If continuity is not as specified, check circuit between wiper switch and TCU, and check wiper switch. See WIPER/WASHER SWITCH  .
