Adjust The Neutral Position Of Steering Angle Sensor

CAUTION:

Always use CONSULT when adjusting the neutral position of Steering Angle Sensor. (It cannot be adjusted other than with CONSULT.)

  1. CHECK VEHICLE SPECIFICATIONS

    Check vehicle specifications.

    Models with Direct Adaptive Steering system 

    Refer to WORK PROCEDURE . GO TO STEP 4  .

    Models without Direct Adaptive Steering system 

    GO TO STEP 2  .

  2. CHECK THE VEHICLE STATUS (1)

    Stop vehicle with front wheels in the straight-ahead position.

    Does the vehicle stay in the straight-ahead position?

    YES 

    GO TO STEP 3  .

    NO 

    Steer the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position. Stop the vehicle.

  3. ADJUST NEUTRAL POSITION OF STEERING ANGLE SENSOR

    G-20 With CONSULT

    1. Turn the Ignition Switch ON.
      CAUTION:

      Never start engine.

    2. Select "ABS", "WORK SUPPORT" and "ST ANGLE SENSOR ADJUSTMENT" in this order.
    3. Select "START".
      CAUTION:

      Never touch steering wheel while adjusting Steering Angle Sensor.

    4. After approx. 10 seconds, select "END".
    5. Turn Ignition Switch OFF, and then turn it ON again.
      CAUTION:

      Be sure to perform the operation above.

    GO TO STEP 4  .

  4. CHECK DATA MONITOR (1)

    G-20 With CONSULT

    1. The vehicle is either pointing straight ahead, or the vehicle needs to be moved. Stop when it is pointing straight ahead.
    2. Select "ABS", "DATA MONITOR", "ECU INPUT SIGNALS" and "STR ANGLE SIG" in the order. Check that the signal is within the specified value.
      STR ANGLE SIG : 0+-2.5°

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES 

    GO TO STEP   11  .

    NO 

    GO TO STEP 5  .

  5. CHECK STEERING COMPONENT PARTS

    Check the installation condition of steering component parts.

    • Vehicle Speed Sensitive Power Steering system: Refer to INSPECTION .
    • Direct Adaptive Steering system: Refer to INSPECTION .

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES 

    GO TO STEP 6  .

    NO 

    Repair or replace error-detected parts. GO TO STEP 6  .

  6. CHECK SUSPENSION COMPONENT PARTS

    Check the installation condition of suspension component parts.

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES 

    GO TO STEP 7  .

    NO 

    Repair or replace error-detected parts. GO TO STEP 7  .

  7. CHECK WHEEL ALIGNMENT

    Check the wheel alignment.

    • Front
      • 2WD: Refer to INSPECTION (VR30DDTT engine models with Hydraulic Pump Electric Power Steering system), INSPECTION (VR30DDTT engine models with Direct Adaptive Steering system), INSPECTION (2.0L TURBO engine models).
      • AWD: Refer to INSPECTION (models with Hydraulic Pump Electric Power Steering system), INSPECTION (models with Direct Adaptive Steering system).
    • Rear: Refer to INSPECTION .

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES 

    Adjust the wheel alignment. GO TO STEP 8.

    • Front
      1. 2WD: Refer to ADJUSTMENT (VR30DDTT engine models with Hydraulic Pump Electric Power Steering system), ADJUSTMENT (VR30DDTT engine models with Direct Adaptive Steering system), ADJUSTMENT (2.0L TURBO engine models).
      2. AWD: Refer to ADJUSTMENT (models with Hydraulic Pump Electric Power Steering system), INSPECTION (models with Direct Adaptive Steering system).
  8. Rear: Refer to ADJUSTMENT .
  9. CHECK THE VEHICLE STATUS (2)

    Stop vehicle with front wheels in the straight-ahead position.

    Does the vehicle stay in the straight-ahead position?

    YES 

    GO TO STEP 9  .

    NO 

    Steer the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position. Stop the vehicle. GO TO STEP 9  .

  10. CHECK DATA MONITOR (2)

    G-20 With CONSULT

    1. The vehicle is either pointing straight ahead, or the vehicle needs to be moved. Stop when it is pointing straight ahead.
    2. Select "ABS", "DATA MONITOR", "ECU INPUT SIGNALS" and "STR ANGLE SIG" in the order. Check that the signal is within the specified value.
      STR ANGLE SIG : 0+-2.5°

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES 

    GO TO STEP 11  .

    NO 

    GO TO STEP 10  .

  11. CHECK DATA MONITOR (3)

    G-20 With CONSULT

    1. The vehicle is either pointing straight ahead, or the vehicle needs to be moved.
      CAUTION:
      • Drive the vehicle at approx. 30 km/h (19 MPH) or more for 300 m (985 ft) or more.
      • Never use tester
    2. The vehicle is either pointing straight ahead, or the vehicle needs to be moved. Stop when it is pointing straight ahead.
    3. Select "ABS", "DATA MONITOR", "ECU INPUT SIGNALS" and "STR ANGLE SIG" in the order. Check that the signal is within the specified value.
      STR ANGLE SIG : 0+-2.5°

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES 

    GO TO STEP 11  .

    NO 

    GO TO STEP 1  .

  12. ERASE SELF-DIAGNOSIS MEMORY

    G-20 With CONSULT

    1. Erase self-diagnosis result of "ABS".
    2. Turn the Ignition Switch OFF → ON → OFF.
      CAUTION:

      Be sure to wait for 10 seconds or more after turning the Ignition Switch OFF or ON.

    Are the memories erased?

    YES 

    INSPECTION END

    NO 

    Check the items indicated by the self-diagnosis.
