Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Perform On-Board Diagnostic II (OBD-II) system check. See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC II (OBD-II) SYSTEM CHECK in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. After performing OBD-II system check, go to next step.
  2. Inspect engine for vacuum leaks. Repair as needed. Go to next step. If no vacuum leaks are present, go to step  16.
  3. Start engine while watching MAP sensor value. Increase engine speed to 2000 RPM. If MAP sensor value changes while increasing engine speed, go to next step. If MAP sensor value does not change, go to step  8.
  4. Turn ignition off. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, monitor TP sensor voltage. Depress accelerator pedal to wide open throttle. Voltage should increase from less to 1.0 volt to above 4.0 volts. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, go to step  11.
  5. Ensure ignition is on, with engine off. Using scan tool, review FREEZE FRAME data, and note parameters. Start engine and operate vehicle within conditions required for setting this DTC, and as close to conditions recorded in FREEZE FRAME as possible. Monitor TP and MAP sensor values. Values should rapidly change during acceleration. If MAP sensor is operating correctly, go to Diagnostic Aids . If MAP sensor operation is lazy or is not reacting quickly to throttle movements, go to next step.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect MAP sensor harness connector. MAP sensor is mounted to top of intake manifold. Turn ignition on. If scan tool displays zero MAP voltage, go to next step. If MAP voltage is greater than zero, go to step  9.
  7. Disconnect MAP sensor vacuum hose. Install hand-held vacuum pump to MAP sensor. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Apply 15 in. Hg to MAP sensor. Monitor MAP sensor value on scan tool. If MAP sensor value changes, go to next step. If MAP sensor value does not change, go to step  10.
  8. Remove MAP sensor vacuum hose from manifold port. Inspect sensor and hose for restriction. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step  16. If no problems were found, go to step  10
  9. Turn ignition off. Disconnect MAP sensor harness connector. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and terminal "B" (Light Green wire) on harness connector. Turn ignition on. If voltage is present, repair Light Green wire for short to voltage. Go to step  16. If no voltage is present, go to step  14.
  10. Replace MAP sensor. After replacing sensor, go to step  16.
  11. Turn ignition off. Disconnect TP sensor harness connector. TP sensor is mounted to throttle body. Turn ignition on. If scan tool displays zero TP sensor voltage, go to step  13. If TP sensor voltage is greater than zero, go to next step.
  12. Turn ignition off. Ensure TP sensor harness connector is disconnected. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and terminal "C" (Dark Blue wire) on harness connector. Turn ignition on. If voltage is present, repair Dark Blue wire for short to voltage. Go to step  16. If no voltage is present, go to next step.
  13. Replace TP sensor. After replacing sensor, go to step  16.
  14. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect PCM harness connectors. Ensure connectors are clean and tight. Repair as needed. If repair is necessary, go to step  16. If no repair is needed, go to next step.
  15. Replace PCM. Program PCM. See PROGRAMMING . After repairs, go to step  16.
  16. Using scan tool, select CLEAR INFO or CLEAR DTCS function to clear DTCs. Start engine and allow it to idle. Ensure engine is at normal operating temperature. Drive vehicle at a steady speed. Select SPECIFIC DTC function, then enter DTC P0106. If scan tool indicates TEST RAN AND PASSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate TEST RAN AND PASSED, repeat step  2.
  17. If any other DTCs are set, diagnose DTCs as necessary. If no other DTCs are set, no problem is currently indicated.
