Diagnostic Procedures
- Perform On-Board Diagnostic II (OBD-II) system check. See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Go to next step.
- Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool read and record FAILURE RECORDS data. Clear DTCs. Start engine and operate vehicle within noted FAILURE RECORDS data conditions. If scan tool indicates DTC P0449 RAN AND PASSED,go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If scan tool does not indicate DTC P0449 RAN AND PASSED, go to next step.
- Turn engine off. Disconnect EVAP canister vent solenoid. Turn ignition on. Using a DVOM, check ignition feed circuit to EVAP canister vent solenoid harness connector. If reading indicates 12 volts, go to step 5. If reading does not indicate 12 volts, go to next step.
- Check for an open ENGINE IG (15-amp) fuse, located in underdash fuse/relay block. Also, check for an open or short in circuit between ENGINE IG (15-amp) fuse and EVAP canister vent solenoid harness connector. Repair as necessary. Retest system.
- Using DVOM, measure resistance of EVAP canister vent solenoid. If reading is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If reading is greater than 5 ohms, go to step 7.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connectors. Check EVAP canister vent solenoid control circuit between PCM and harness connector for an open or shorted condition. Repair as necessary. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
- Replace EVAP canister vent solenoid. Retest system. If DTC returns, go to next step.
- Replace and reprogram PCM using required equipment. See PROGRAMMING . Retest system.
