April 5, 2026: LEMON Manuals is launched! Read the announcement.

Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Turn ignition on. Review and record scan tool FAILURE RECORDS data. Operate vehicle within FAILURE RECORDS conditions. Using scan tool, monitor SPECIFIC DTC information for DTC P1311 until DTC P1311 test runs. Note result. If scan tool indicates DTC P1311 FAILED THIS IGNITION, go to next step. If scan tool display is not as specified, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ION Sensing Module and PCM harness connectors. Check wire harness between ION Sensing Module harness connector and PCM harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If problem is found, repair as necessary and retest system. If problem is not found, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect ignition coil. Check ION Sensing Module wire harness between ignition coil and ION Sensing Module circuit at SEC line 1 harness connector. If problem is found, repair as necessary and retest system. If problem is not present, go to next step.
  4. Check ignition coil, ignition coil circuit and ground circuit for poor connections. If problem is present, repair wiring harness as necessary and retest system. If problem is not present, go to next step.
  5. Replace ignition coil. Retest system. Go to next step.
  6. Check ION Sensing Module ground circuit for poor connection. If problem is present, repair wiring harness as necessary and retest system. If problem is still present, go to next step. If problem is not present, go to step  8.
  7. Replace ION Sensing Module. Retest system. If problem is not present, go to next step.
  8. Replace and reprogram PCM. See EEPROM PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE  under PROGRAMMING. Retest system.
