If a vehicle requires recovery/transportation, the EPR mechanism is used to manually disengage the park lock and engage the transmission in neutral.
The EPR mechanism consists of a service tool, supplied as part of the vehicle tool kit, and a cable assembly that is connected to a lever arm on the transmission.
The EPR lower cable assembly terminates in the engine compartment, and is secured, via a locating bracket, on the left side of the supercharger casing. The engine cover requires removal for access. The lever arm is attached to the transmission park release shaft.
To release the transmission from 'P', it is necessary to connect the EPR service tool to the EPR lower cable assembly. When operated, the EPR mechanism turns the transmission park release shaft to the neutral position.
Actuation of the EPR on AWD vehicles is a two person operation with the footbrake applied. If an assistant is not available, the vehicle must be secured via chocks to prevent against vehicle roll-away. The EPR service tool is marked with a visible warning label to the operator that the foot brake must be applied during operation.
To disengage the park lock:
- Ensure the vehicle is secured via the footbrake (two people required) or wheel chocks.
- Open the luggage compartment lid and access the vehicle tool kit. Remove the EPR service tool.
- Open the hood and remove the engine cover.
Refer to: Engine Cover - V6 S/C 3.0L Petrol (Removal and Installation).
- Release the cable from the clip on the supercharger and remove the protective end cap from the cable assembly.
- Attach the EPR service tool to the cable assembly, ensuring the latches on the connector and the housing are fully engaged.
- Rotate the locking cylinder of the operating lever 90 degrees counterclockwise.
- Pull the operating lever upwards and ensure it locks in the vertical position.
Raising the operating lever causes the EPR cable to rotate the lever arm on the transmission, which disengages the parking pawl and engages neutral. This allows the vehicle to freewheel.
To re-engage the park lock:
- Hold the strap on the operating lever, release the latch and lower the operating lever to the horizontal position.
- Lock the operating lever by turning the locking cylinder 90 degrees clockwise.
- Depress the latches on the connector and disconnect the EPR service tool from the housing on the cable assembly.
- Replace the protective end cap on the lower cable, ensuring that the latches engage.
- Ensure the cable is securely located in the bracket on the supercharger.
- Replace the engine cover and close the hood.
Refer to: Engine Cover - V6 S/C 3.0L Petrol (Installation).
- Replace the EPR service tool in the luggage compartment and close the luggage compartment lid.
