Charging A/C System

NOTE: See A/C SYSTEM SPECS in the AIR CONDITIONING section for system capacities.
  1. System must be evacuated before charging. With manifold gauge set attached from evacuation procedures, attach R-12 container(s) to hose on center connector of manifold gauge set. Fully open R-12 container valve(s) and purge air from center hose and close valves.
  2. Adjust service valves on the compressor to the mid-position (if equipped). Slowly open low side valve and allow refrigerant to enter the system. Start and run engine. Place A/C-heater controls to MAX cold position.
  3. When proper amount of R-12 has been added, close low side valve on manifold gauge set. Stop engine, close service valves on compressor and disconnect manifold gauge set. Start engine and operate the A/C system for 10 minutes to stabilize the system.
