Test TC-184A - Leak Detection Pump SW Or Mechanical Fault
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, refer to CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
article in this section.
- Start engine and allow it to idle. Using scan tool, read and note Leak Detection Pump (LDP) pressure switch status. Using scan tool, actuate LDP solenoid. If status does not switch from UP to DOWN, go to step 6). If status switches from UP to DOWN, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, stop LDP solenoid actuation. Using scan tool, read LDP pressure switch status. If status does not switch from DOWN to UP, go to step 6). If status switches from DOWN to UP, go to next step.
- Condition required to set DTC is not present at this time. LEAK DETECTION PUMP PRESSURE SW DTC sets if Powertrain Control Module (PCM) does not sense state of solenoid change when it is energized. Possible causes are: open or shorted LDP switch sense circuit, defective LDP switch, or open fused ignition switch circuit. Go to next step.
- Inspect all related wiring and connectors. Repair wiring and connectors as necessary and perform TEST VER-5A . If wiring and connectors are okay, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, actuate LDP solenoid. Wiggle wiring harness from LDP solenoid to PCM while monitoring LDP switch status. If status switches from UP to DOWN at any time while wiggling wiring harness, repair wiring harness as necessary and perform TEST VER-5A. If status does not change, see INACTIVE DTC CONDITION . Test is complete. Perform TEST VER-5A.
- Connect a vacuum gauge between LDP and LDP vacuum supply hose. Start engine and read vacuum gauge. If vacuum gauge does not read within one in. Hg of engine vacuum, repair leak or obstruction in vacuum supply hose and perform TEST VER-5A. If vacuum gauge reads within one in. Hg of engine vacuum, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connectors. Inspect connectors and terminals for damage. Repair connectors and terminals as necessary and perform TEST VER-5A. If connectors and terminals are okay, go to next step.
- Turn ign on. Using scan tool voltmeter mode, check voltage on PCM Gray connector, LDP pressure switch circuit (Violet/Red). If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace LDP and perform TEST VER-5A. If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to next step.
- Disconnect LDP connector. Check voltage on LDP connector, fused ignition switch output circuit (Red/Orange wire). If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open fused ignition switch circuit and perform TEST VER-5A . If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
- Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of LDP pressure switch circuit (Violet/Red wire) from LDP connector to PCM Gray connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open LDP pressure switch circuit and perform TEST VER-5A . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace LDP and perform TEST VER-5A.
