Test NTC-4A - Checking ECT Sensor Calibration

  1. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor value. If ECT sensor value is more than 180°F (82.2°C), allow engine to cool to 150°F (65.6°C) and go to next step.
  2. Start engine. Allow engine to reach 180°F (82.2°C) or more while monitoring scan tool. If scan tool reading does not increase smoothly as engine temperature increases, inspect cooling system for mechanical failures. Repair cooling system as necessary and perform TEST VER-2A. If cooling system is okay, replace ECT sensor and perform TEST VER-2A. If scan tool reading increases smoothly, go to next step.
  3. If ECT sensor value did not reach 180°F (82.2°C) or more, inspect cooling system for mechanical failures. Repair cooling system as necessary and perform TEST VER-2A . If cooling system is okay, replace ECT sensor and perform TEST VER-2A. If ECT sensor value reached 180°F (82.2°C), ECT sensor is operating properly. Test is complete.
