VTSS Test 6B - Repairing Park Light Relay Circuit

NOTE: Perform VTSS TEST 1A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, refer to CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagrams, refer to WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Refer to ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM article. After each repair, perform TEST VER-2A  .
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector. Ensure all connectors are clean and tight.
  1. Remove park light relay. Park light relay is located in junction block, behind right kick panel. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between component terminals No. 85 and 86 on horn relay. See Figure under VTSS TEST 6A. If resistance is less than 65 ohms or more than 90 ohms, replace relay. If resistance is more than 65 ohms or less than 90 ohms, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, measure voltage at terminal No. 30 on park light relay socket. If voltage is less than 10 volts, replace junction block. If voltage is 10 volts or more, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, measure voltage at terminal No. 86 on park light relay socket. If voltage is less than 10 volts, replace junction block. If voltage is 10 volts or more, go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, measure resistance at terminal No. 85 on park light relay socket. Using scan tool, actuate park light relay. If resistance drops to less than 30 ohms when park light relay is actuated, replace park light relay. If resistance does not drop to less than 30 ohms when park light relay is actuated, go to next step.
  5. Turn park lights on from headlight switch. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, measure voltage at terminal No. 87 (Dark Blue/Red wire) on park light relay socket. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Dark Blue/Red wire. If voltage is 10 volts or more, go to next step.
  6. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, backprobe terminal No. 21 (Tan wire) on Body Control Module (BCM) White 24-pin connector. Do not disconnect BCM connector. Using scan tool, actuate park light relay. If resistance drops to less than 30 ohms when relay is actuated, repair open in Tan wire. If resistance does not drop to less than 30 ohms when relay is actuated, replace BCM.
