Coolant Level Switch Circuit Open

  1. Using scan tool, select BCM SENSORS. Turn ignition on. Read coolant level sensor voltage. If voltage is greater than 4.7 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 4.7 volts or less, test is complete.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect coolant level sensor. Sensor is mounted in coolant recovery tank. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 2 (Black wire) on sensor harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open Black wire.
  3. Measure resistance between coolant level sensor component connector. If resistance is less than 3500 ohms, connect sensor connector and go to next step. If resistance is 3500 ohms or greater, replace coolant level sensor.
  4. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select BCM SENSORS. Using jumper wire, backprobe coolant level sensor connector terminals. If coolant level sensor voltage is less than one volt, go to next step. If voltage is one volt or greater, replace Body Control Module (BCM)
  5. Disconnect coolant level sensor connector. Using scan tool, select BCM SENSORS. Turn ignition on. Connect jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 1 (Pink/Black wire) on coolant level sensor harness connector. Read coolant level sensor voltage. If voltage is greater than 4.7 volts, repair open Pink/Black wire. If voltage is 4.7 volts or less, test is complete.
