Brake Indicator Not Operating Properly
- Cycle ignition from OFF to ON position. If Red brake warning light illuminates for about 4 seconds and then goes out, go to next step. If Red brake warning light does not illuminate for about 4 seconds and then go out, go to step 6 .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect parking brake switch. Measure resistance between ground and parking brake switch component terminal. Pull up on parking brake handle. If resistance is zero ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not zero ohms, replace parking brake switch.
- Disconnect instrument cluster connector. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and terminal (Gray/Black wire) on parking brake switch harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Gray/Black wire for short to ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, go to next step.
- Measure resistance of Gray/Black wire between terminal No. 5 on instrument cluster harness connector and terminal on parking brake switch harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open Gray/Black wire.
- Using voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and terminal (Gray/Black wire) on parking brake switch harness connector. If any voltage is present, repair Gray/Black wire for short to voltage. If no voltage is present, test is complete.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect parking brake switch. Measure resistance between ground and parking brake switch component terminal. Pull up on parking brake handle. If resistance is zero ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not zero ohms, replace parking brake switch.
- Remove and inspect Red brake warning light bulb. Replace as needed. If bulb is okay, go to next step.
