Check Engine Indicator Not Operating Properly

  1. Cycle ignition from OFF to ON position. If CHECK ENGINE indicator light illuminates for about 4 seconds and then goes out, go to next step. If CHECK ENGINE indicator light does not illuminate for about 4 seconds and then go out, go to step  3 .
  2. Using scan tool, read ENGINE DTCs. If any PCM DTCs are present, go to appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If no PCM DTCs are present, test is complete.
  3. Remove and inspect CHECK ENGINE bulb. Replace as needed. If bulb is okay, go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool, read ENGINE DTCs. If any PCM DTCs are present, go to appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If no PCM DTCs are present, replace instrument printed circuit board.
