Shift Interlock Cable

  1. Move gearshift lever into Park. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove gearshift lever bezel to access cable adjustment. Pull cable lock button up to release cable. See Figure or Fig 1 . Use a spacer to create a .039" (1.0 mm) gap between shifter pawl and top of shift gate. Pull cable forward (rearward on Grand Cherokee) and release.
  2. Snap lock button into place. Verify adjustment by attempting to move gearshift lever. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If shift interlock system functions as specified, adjustment is okay.
