Evap Temp Sensor Shorted (MTC & AZC)

When Monitored: With the ignition on.

Set Condition: This DTC is displayed if the BCM detects an abnormally low voltage on the Evaporator Temperature Sensor Signal circuit.

Possible Causes are:

  1. Turn ignition on. Using the DRBIII(R), erase all BCM DTC's. Cycle the ignition switch from off to on and wait 10 seconds. Using the DRBIII(R), read the BCM DTC's. Does the DRBIII(R) display this DTC? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step  5 .
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect the Evaporator Temperature Sensor harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using the DRBIII(R), erase all BCM DTC's. Cycle the ignition switch from off to on and wait 10 seconds. Using the DRBIII(R), read the BCM DTC's. Does the DRBIII(R) display: Evap Temp Sensor Open? If yes, replace the Evaporator Temperature Sensor. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST VER 1  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect the BCM C2 harness connector. Disconnect the Evaporator Temperature Sensor harness connector. Measure the resistance between ground and the Evaporator Temperature Sensor Signal circuit. Is the resistance more than 100k/ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair the Evaporator Temperature Sensor Signal circuit for a short to ground. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST VER 1  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect the Body Control Module C2 harness connector. Disconnect the Evaporator Temperature Sensor harness connector. Measure the resistance between the Evaporator Temperature Sensor Signal circuit and the Sensor Ground circuit. Is the resistance more than 100k/ohms? If yes, replace and program the Body Control Module. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST VER 1  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, repair the Evaporator Temperature Sensor Signal circuit for a short to Sensor Ground. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST VER 1  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  5. Turn ignition off. Visually inspect the related wiring harness and circuits. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires. Visually inspect the related wiring harness connectors. Look for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded terminals. Refer to any Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) that may apply. Were any problems found? If yes, repair as necessary. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST VER 1  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, test is complete.
