Module, Powertrain Control, 2.8L Diesel: Installation: Installation

  1. If removed, install the powertrain control module (4) onto the mounting bracket (3). Tighten the two nuts securely.
  2. Install the powertrain control module and bracket as an assembly onto the fender (2).
  3. Install the two nuts or screws (5) that secure the powertrain control module bracket to the fender. Tighten the fasteners securely.
  4. Check the pins and receptacles in the powertrain control module and the harness connectors (1) for corrosion or damage. The pin heights in the connectors should all be the same. Repair as necessary before installing connectors.
  5. Connect the two harness connectors to the powertrain control module.
  6. Install the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) onto its mounting bracket and connect the positive battery cable to the TIPM. Refer to MODULE, TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER (TIPM), INSTALLATION .
  7. Install the glow plug relay onto the powertrain control module mounting bracket. Be sure the push-pin is securely installed.
    CAUTION:

    If a new powertrain control module is being installed, use a scan tool to reprogram the new module with the original vehicle identification number (VIN) and original mileage. If this step is not performed, a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will set.

  8. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
