Data Link Connector (DLC)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The Data Link Connector (DLC) (1) is a 16-way molded plastic connector insulator on a dedicated take out of the instrument panel wire harness. This connector is located at the lower edge of the instrument panel, outboard of the steering column. The connector insulator is retained by integral snap features within a rectangular cutout in a mounting bracket located just under the lower edge of the instrument panel, left of the hood release.

OPERATION

Controller Area Network (CAN) Communication Networks:
CAN-Chassis (CAN-C)
CAN-Flexible Data (CAN-FD)
CAN-Interior High Speed (CAN-IHS)

The central diagnostic socket receives a direct battery power supply from the line protected by a fuse located in the Power Distribution Center (PDC).

The DLC connection to the vehicle is protected by the Security Gateway Module (SGW) authentication requirements. Because of the SGW, the DLC will no longer be able to be used for CAN bus network diagnosis.
