Module, Electronic Shift (ESM): Description
The Electronic Shift Module (ESM) is part of the hybrid shifter assembly called the Shift Lever Assembly (SLA) (1). The shifter is equipped with autostick capability. The SLA is located in the center console. If it is necessary to service the ESM, the SLA must be replaced.
Gear range selection on the transmission is accomplished SLA (1). The ESM communicates on Controller Area Network-Chassis (CAN-C) bus to control gear shift selection instead of a conventional cable. With the ignition on and the brake pedal applied, the driver can use the shift level to select either (P) Park, (R) Reverse, (N) Neutral, or (D) Drive positions.
