Module, Electronic Shift (ESM): Operation
The Electronic Shift Module (ESM):
- communicates with the Transmission Control Module (TCM) via a Controller Area Network-Chassis (CAN-C) data bus.
- incorporates an actuator that allows the knob to be locked for purposes of Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) function. The BTSI signal is received from the Radio Frequency Hub (RF-Hub) module.
- positions have a detent to keep the knob in the position it is placed in.
- is equipped with autostick functionality.
- locking is controlled by the TCM by means of a CAN-C message.
- is serviced as a component of the Shift Lever Assembly (SLA).
- Additionally, steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters are available on some models. Refer to SWITCH, REMOTE RADIO, DESCRIPTION .
- can set Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) when a fault is detected.
