Module, Electronic Steering Lock (ESL): Description
All models have an electromechanical device called an Electronic Steering Lock (ESL) (1) that locks and unlocks the steering column upon request by the Body Control Module (BCM). The ESL is located above and attached to the steering column.
The ESL transmits data and communicates with the other modules involved in the Sentry Key Immobilizer System (SKIS) via Controller Area Network - Chassis (CAN-C).
In normal operating conditions the ESL module unlocks the steering column if, the key fob in the vehicle is identified by the SKIS as a valid key.
