Module, Powertrain Control (Pcm): Installation: 2.0L

CAUTION:

If a new powertrain control module is being installed, use a scan tool to reprogram the new module with the original vehicle identification number (VIN) and original mileage. If this step is not performed, a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will set.

NOTE:

If the PCM on a high pressure fuel system is replaced, after reprogramming go to Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in the "Miscellaneous functions" menu and start the following procedures: fuel feed system component replacement; adaptive parameter reset.

  1. If removed, install the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) mount (1) by aligning the locator tab and pushing the mount towards the battery tray (3) until an audible click is heard. Make sure the retaining clip (4) is fully engaged with the battery tray.
  2. Install the fasteners (2) and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .

  3. Install the PCM (5) to the mount studs.
  4. Install the wire harness bracket (2) on the mount studs.
  5. Install the ground wire (4) on the stud and then install and tighten the fasteners to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  6. Connect the PCM wire harness connectors (1).
  7. Connect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector to the negative battery cable.
    NOTE:

    If this Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is being replaced with a new unit, a diagnostic scan tool MUST be used to determine if alignment of the PROXI configuration data into the new ECU is needed. If PROXI alignment is needed, follow the routine outlined in the diagnostic scan tool for PROXI Configuration Alignment under the Body Control Module (BCM) Miscellaneous Functions menu.

  8. Perform the PCM programming procedure. Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL (PCM), MODULE PROGRAMMING .
