Frame, Ladder: Removal

- Remove the engine from the vehicle and separate the transmission and flexplate from the engine. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove the rear crankshaft oil seal. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Drain the engine oil. Refer to
ENGINE/LUBRICATION/OIL/STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Using a suitable oil filter wrench, remove the oil filter (1).
- Remove the three bolts (5) and the oil cooler heat shield (4).
- Remove the oil cooler connector bolt (1) and reposition the oil cooler.
- Remove and discard the oil cooler seal.
- Disconnect the B+ cable (2) and the field generator harness connector (3) from the generator.
- Remove the bolts (1, 4) and the generator from the engine.
- Remove the bolt (2) and the dipstick tube (1).
- Remove and discard the dipstick tube O-ring seal (1).
- Remove the three bolts (2) and the generator mounting bracket (1) from the engine.
- Remove the bolt (2), two nuts (1) and the lower intake manifold support bracket (3).
- Remove the three bolts (2) and the intermediate shaft bearing housing (1) from the engine.
- Remove the cylinder head cover, oil pan and engine timing cover. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove the balance shaft/oil pump assembly. Refer to REMOVAL
.
- Remove the ladder frame bolts in reverse of the sequence shown in illustration.
- Separate the ladder frame from the engine block using the pry point cast in the rear of the engine block (1).
- Separate and remove the ladder frame from the engine block using another pry point (1) cast in the right side of the engine block.
NOTE:
Leave the accessory belt tensioner (3) attached to the generator mounting bracket (1).
