Timing Chain
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- If removed, install the timing chain guide (1) with three bolts (2) tightened to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- If removed, install the tensioner arm (4) with the bushing and bolt (3) tightened to the proper torque specification. Refer to
TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Reset the timing chain tensioner. Refer to
ENGINE/VALVE TIMING/STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Align the timing chain onto the camshaft sprocket mark (2) using the painted link (1) as a guide.
- Align the timing chain onto the camshaft sprocket mark (2) using the painted link (1) as a guide.NOTE:
Do not use an impact wrench to tighten the camshaft sprocket bolt. Damage to the camshaft dowel pin and camshaft may occur.
- Align the sprocket with the camshaft dowel and install the camshaft sprocket (2) on the camshaft with the bolt (1).
- Position a wrench on the camshaft flats (1) to hold the camshaft.
- Using the (special tool #2074000090, Wrench, Camshaft Gear), tighten the camshaft sprocket bolt (1) to the proper torque specification. Refer to (TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS ).
- Remove the pin (1/8 in. drill bit) from the timing chain tensioner.
- Verify that the valve timing is correct. Refer to ENGINE/VALVE TIMING - STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Install the engine timing cover. Refer to INSTALLATION .
- If removed, install the oil filter and fill the engine crankcase with the proper oil to the correct level. Refer to ENGINE/LUBRICATION/OIL - STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Connect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector to the negative battery cable.
- Install the resonator. Refer to INSTALLATION .
- Install the engine cover.
- Run the engine until it reaches normal operating temperature. Check cooling system for correct fluid level. Refer to ADDING ADDITIONAL COOLANT .
NOTE:
The Cam/Crank Variation Relearn procedure must be performed using the scan tool anytime there has been a repair/replacement made to a powertrain system, for example: flywheel, valvetrain, camshaft and/or crankshaft sensors or components.
