Piston And Connecting Rod
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
DISASSEMBLY
- Remove the piston and connecting rod assembly from the engine. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove the piston rings from the piston. Refer to REMOVAL
.
- Remove the piston pin circlips (1) with a suitable tool. Discard the circlips.
- Remove the piston pin (2) and separate the piston (1) from the connecting rod (3).
ASSEMBLY
NOTE:
The exhaust valve pockets (1) in the piston crown are physically larger than the intake valve pockets (2). The piston directional arrow (3) is located on the exhaust side of the piston and points to the front (timing side) of the engine.
- Clean any carbon residues from the piston crown.NOTE:
The number engraved on the connecting rod (2) identifies the cylinder number and must be the same as the one engraved on the connecting rod cap.
- The connecting rod (1) must be installed so that the front mark (3) on the connecting rod cap points to the front (timing side) of the engine.
- Assemble the connecting rod and piston so that the cylinder number stamped above and below the cap joint on the narrow face (edge) of the big end (2) are both located on the same side of the connecting rod big end and on the same side of the piston directional arrow (1).
- Align the connecting rod (3) in the piston (1) and Install the piston pin (2).
- Install the NEW piston pin circlips (1) so that the circlip end gap (2) faces up toward the top of the piston.
- Fit the piston rings on the pistons. Refer to INSTALLATION .
- Install the piston and connecting rod assembly to the engine. Refer to INSTALLATION .
