Description And Operation: Operation

The DLC:
- Is used by the diagnostic tools and test equipment to access the on-board Electronic Control Units (ECUs) via the CAN-IHS and CAN-C networks.
- Permits direct access to communication networks for improved bus failure detection.
- Is an industry-standard, 16-way connector typically located underneath the left side of the instrument panel.
- Provides positive battery (B+) and ground (-) pins, which allow a scan tool or test equipment to:
- Function with low or no battery.
- Detect vehicle connection/disconnection.
In the Powernet architecture, each module is connected to the network at a main connection point called Star Connectors. There are four Star Connectors on this platform. Each Star Connector contains circuitry that connects the modules to the network in parallel. The Star Connectors make diagnosing network concerns much easier by:
- Allowing each branch of the network to be isolated independently.
- Allowing each branch of the network to be tested separately from the rest of the network wiring.
Each star connector will have 120 ohms across the bus.
