Description And Operation: Description
The Rear Cabin Comfort Controls (RCCC) for the rear heating and A/C system allows both the front and intermediate seat passengers the ability to regulate air temperature as well as fan speed and provides a floor outlet near the right rear door and upper air outlets at the ceiling. All controls are identified by ISO graphic symbols.
The primary controls for the rear heating and A/C system are located in the instrument panel Integrated Center Stack (ICS) Module. Refer to HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING/CONTROLS/CONTROL, A/C AND HEATER/DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .
The RCCC is located in the rear overhead console or in the headliner, depending on trim level. The RCCC is a slave potentiometer to the front ICS module. The RCCC allows intermediate seat passengers to adjust rear air distribution, temperature and blower motor speed when the rear heating and A/C system primary ON/OFF control in the instrument panel is set to the ON position, and the rear controls are not locked out by the driver and front seat passenger.
The RCCC is diagnosed using a scan tool. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX .
Prior to replacing a RCCC, check for any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) related to the heating and A/C systems and run the calibration procedure to verify that the concern is not a calibration issue. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
The RCCC cannot be adjusted or repaired and must be replaced if inoperative or damaged. The illumination lamps are available for service replacement.
The RCCC (1) contains:
- two hard keys for fan speed selection and turning the rear heating and A/C system OFF or to AUTO mode.
- two hard keys for temperature control of the rear discharged air.
- a hard key for mode control of the rear discharged air.
- an red indicator lamp that illuminates when the RCCC is "locked out" by the front ICS module.
The Manual Temperature Control (MTC) RCCC (1) contains:
- a rotary control knob for fan speed selection and turning the rear heating and A/C system ON and OFF (2).
- a rotary control knob for temperature control of the rear discharged air (3).
- a rotary control knob for mode control of the rear discharged air (4).
